On the Road Again

We were supposed to leave 1 May but the weather in Livingston was bad so we postponed it a day.
Our first stop was supposed to be Natchez State Park, MS. I didn't know there was an old and new loop and had booked a site in the old loop. That entire loop should be condemned! The road to it is one way and very narrow. Heaven help you if you meet someone exiting the campground because there's no where to turn around. The site I booked was so narrow and on the side of the hill that I wouldn't have been able to put my stairs down. I tried backing in and got stuck in the mud twice. Thankfully my 4-wheel drive came in handy. I went to the new loop which was much better and pulled into an empty site. Since of course the park office was closed (it was 5:15 and they closed at 5) I called the reservation line to see if I could switch sites and was told the wait time would be an hour. I chose the "call me back" option and left. We ended up at a Walmart parking lot. It was actually a nice Walmart and I got a great night's sleep. That one hour call back time turned into the next day. I explained what happened and they said to contact the park office to see about reimbursement. I did that and they refunded me! Way to go Mississippi State Parks!
I had also noticed one of my tires had a slow leak so I called Coach-Net roadside assistance. It was Sunday so no tire shops were open. They had someone come out with an hour to put my spare on. This trip is not starting out like I thought it would but I knew it would get better, right? Nope. Day two said hold my beer.
Our next stop was Legion State Park in Louisville MS. It was a pull-through site and I thought "this will be easy" - ha! Went to plug in the camper and I had no 110v power. What the heck? I checked the pedestal and the breaker was on. I checked the Power Watchdog EMS was working - it was. I checked the cord was plugged into the EMS and the trailer tightly - check. I got my multimeter out and tried checking the cord but the openings where you plug into the trailer were too deep and my prongs wouldn't reach so I attached my extension cord and checked it. It had power. At that point I knew it was my power cord. I had a friend replace the head and when I picked it up again the whole cord fell out! The connections had come loose. Ugh! At least it was still cool out and no a/c was needed.
The next morning I called around the Belmont MS area (where we were heading) and finally found a 50amp power cord in nearby Tupelo. We swung by the store and picked one up. Problem solved.

We arrived in Belmont to have my True Topper installed. On the way back from California my slide topper awning got ruined in the brutal West Texas winds. We had to cut the awning off in order to open the slide because it was blocking it. I didn't want another one installed because they've flapped around in storms so bad I've had to bring the slide in to prevent damage. I also didn't want to have to climb up on the ladder and blow/sweep the slide off every time I closed it. Enter True Topper. It's like a giant squeegee that sweeps everything off the top of the slide when you close it. There's no fabric to flap around and get damaged.
Pro Finishes in Belmont MS does all kinds of repairs/upgrades. Rick, the owner was great and Jacob, the tech that installed by True Topper was amazing. They put me right at ease and made us feel at home. They even had an area I could throw the ball to Sage.
I was able to stay the night right there in front of the bay. Unfortunately, Rick woke me up at 6:30 because they needed that bay and I had to move the camper. I was told to back it into a site on the other side of the parking lot and I could stay there as long as needed. I tried and failed spectacularly! At least it damaged my truck and not the trailer. The truck is much easier to get fixed.
On the way to Talladega AL I got the truck and trailer washed so good bye love bugs! I stayed at Talladega Pit Stop RV park and it was charming. It has cabins and RV spots and the camp hosts were so nice. Highly recommend this park. They even have shuttles to the race if you're here for that.
On to Atlanta. I stayed at Old Federal Campground on Lake Lanier. I never minded driving through downtown Atlanta even towing my trailer, but obviously it’s been a few years because holy cow I was white knuckling it all the way through. Traffic has always been crazy, but the drivers have gotten worse.
On the way out of town I got the leaking tire replaced at Discount Tire and headed to North Carolina...
