An update for the new people

Since I haven't been blogging for the last two years I thought I'd do an entry explaining what happened.

In Mar 2024 I went to the ER with heart palpitations, shortness of breath and could hardly walk 20 feet. To make a long story short, in May 2024 I was diagnosed with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension, a rare, progressive and incurable lung disease that also caused right sided heart failure. I was extremely sick and was immediately started on several drugs. I got a little better and was allowed to travel to California for the holidays in December 2024. I knew a few days into my trip that I probably shouldn't be traveling alone. I made it to SoCal and spent the holidays with my sister and her family. I started back to Texas in January 2025 and got as far as Tucson before I was so short of breath I was almost passing out. A friend had to come get me and drive my rig back to Texas.

I returned to Livingston, Texas in February and was hospitalized for 3 weeks. They started me on Remodulin, a subcutaneous (subQ) pump medication which made me extremely sick and weak. At this point I thought I would never be able to travel again so I moved to an apartment in the DFW area to be close to my son and was preparing my trailer to sell. During this time my specialist also started me on another drug, Winrevair, that is an injection I give myself every three weeks. Preparing the trailer was slow going and six months later I was so much improved I decided to follow my heart and move back into my RV.

In April 2026 my doctor gave me the all clear to resume my travels with restrictions. I had originally planned to go to the Pacific Northwest but right now I have to stay below 5000 feet in elevation so that nixed those plans. Instead I'm heading the other way to the Northeast. I've never been up there so I hope you come along for the ride.
